Custom T’s of DC Racing
Ever wonder how CustomTs Racing
originated or how the name came to be?
In 1987, Larry Thompson started a tee
shirt company, Custom T’s of DC. He
built that business mainly screen
printing tee shirts, caps, sweatshirts,
tote bags, etc for family reunions,
school reunions, school athletic
departments and you guessed it…drag
racing events.
In addition to printing items for the
racing events, the company began selling
tee shirts and caps at the races. The
shirts portraying the event name, racers
and race cars became extremely popular.
Larry already loved drag racing but
being around it added fuel to the
fire…he began brainstorming about
promoting the fast growing sport.
Since the tee shirt business was already
popular with the racing fans, the ideal
name would be CustomTsRacing. It became
a reality in 2001, with the promotion of
the first race at the Colonial Beach
Dragway in Colonial Beach, VA. It was a
huge success,
Custom T’s was hooked and wanted even
bigger. For the next few years,
successful races were held and the fan
base continued to grow and was demanding
even more. In 2008, CustomTsRacing went
to the next level by promoting their
1st Annual Doorslammer
Nationals at Maryland International
Raceway in
Budds Creek, MD. The attendance and
participation was outstanding.
The Doorslammer Nationals has become an
annual event and several additional
races have been promoted at Virginia
Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, VA,
Capitol Raceway in Crofton, MD and Old
Dominion Speedway in Manassas, VA.
CustomTsRacing has been featured on
‘Let’s Talk Sports’ with Glenn Harris
and on ‘Goss’ Garage’ with Pat Goss;
both News Channel 8 TV.
Large corporations and small businesses,
as well as individuals have generously
supported our endeavors. One of our
major quests is to discourage illegal
street racing…and we are very adamant
about it. Just as important is our
desire to continue giving back to the
community in the form of support to
church and community youth programs.
